Resource Development Division

The Planning & Development Division is mainly focusing on library Planning & Development Division such as books, magazines, digital collection etc. It is also responsible for collection process such as purchasing, classification, digitization etc. The division leads by a Deputy Chief Librarian and comprises of 3 units that are Acquisition & Serial Unit, Cataloging Unit and Gift & Exchange Unit.

The units are as follow;

A. Acquisition & Serial Unit

Introduction
The Acquisition & Serial Unit is responsible for the purchase, selection and renewal of library materials such as books, e-books, serials (printed and online), online databases, non-book materials (CD/VCD/DVD) and newspapers (online). The acquisition was made through purchases and subscriptions to support academic programs and research mission of the University.

Objective
To develop library collection (printed and online) to support the reference needs for teaching, learning and research activity of the University.

Function

  • Selection, ordering, claiming, receiving, renewal and payment of all library materials
  • Monitoring, coordinating, implementing and evaluating all collection-related activities Providing management and financial reports/statistics
  • Coordinating e-resources training class, trial and demo
  • Coordinates binding and rebinding of books, journals and magazines.

B. Cataloging Unit

Introduction
Cataloging Unit headed by two librarians (S41) and three Assistant Librarian (S17). UMP library using LCSH and LCCs as a standard cataloging and classification. In addition, the division is also responsible for producing barcodes, spine labels and RFID tags.

Objective
To make sure all bibliographic records for every monograph and accompanying materials are complete accordance with the standards specified in the database library

Function

  • Catalog and classify monographs and accompanying materials in original, catalog copy, and CIP
  • Maintenance and monitoring of bibliographic records in a database management system libraries (VIRTUA)
  • Maintenance and monitoring authority records in the database management system libraries (VIRTUA)
  • Maintain the accompanying materials such as plans, maps, technical drawings and others
  • Maintain and monitor matters relating to policy and policy
  • Accepting and acknowledging receipt of materials from the Acquisition Unit
  • Print book call number and barcode. Maintain any problem on call number and barcode sticker
  • Download bibliographic records into the RFID tag
  • Maintain any RFID tag problem

C. Gift & Exchange Unit

Introduction

The Gift & Exchange Unit is responsible for managing of requisition, acquisition, and cataloging gifts and donation materials such as annual reports, serials (bulletins, journals), and non-book materials (conference CD/VCD/DVD). The acquisition was made through requisition and donation from agency or organization and individual to develop and support academic programs and research of the University.

Objective

  • To develop the library’s collection to support the references needs for teaching and learning of the University
  • To dispose unwanted materials in the beneficial ways

Function

  • Requesting and acquisition gift materials
  • Exchange and donate gifts to related organization or agency and individual 
  • Catalog and classify monographs and accompanying materials in original, catalog copy, and CIP
  • Maintenance and monitoring of bibliographic records in a database management system libraries (VIRTUA)
  • Maintenance and monitoring authority records in the database management system libraries (VIRTUA)
