User Education Class: Search Strategies And The Basics Of Using Mendeley With Undergraduates from the Faculty of Science and Industry Technology (FSTI) on 5 and 11 April 2023

Dr. Noor Diana Binti Abdul Majid, the Undergraduate Project Coordinator (PSM) for the students of the Occupational Safety and Health Programme, Faculty of Science and Industry Technology, has invited the Universiti Malaysia Pahang Library (UMP) to hold a user education class for 87 undergraduates. This two session programme was held on 5 April 2023 and 11 April 2023 from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm at the Gambang Library Computer Lab. The session teaches students on how to look for reference materials in libraries and open access platforms.

The session was led by Puan Affida Binti Abu Bakar, Librarian at the Gambang Library's Education and Research Unit with the assistance of Assistant Librarian from the same unit.

Puan Affida taught the technique for finding keywords and invited students to create keywords depending on their subjects studied before looking for reference resources. Furthermore, students must also complete the practical activities using search platforms such as Science Direct, Springerlink, Taylor & Francis, and others available through the library's EzProxy system.

As an extra bonus, the students are taught on how to utilize Mendeley in organising reference sources for their future works. Students are instructed on how to gather their own materials and successfully organise them using Mendeley. They can also learn how to build an APA reference list during the Mendeley session.

The exposure that the students had will assist them in using high-quality reference materials in the Library. The students need to understand so that they may take advantage of all of the library's facilities and are able to access reference sources successfully using the strategies that have been presented. Hopefully, this session will assist students in their studies and guide them to generate high-quality final-year project writing.
