User Education Programme – Information Literacy Skills (9 April 2021)

Applied and Industrial Mathematics (AIMs) cluster, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has appointed Puan Affida Binti Abu Bakar (Librarian, Education & Research Section) as the invited speaker for the Monthly Mathematical Colloquium 4/2021.

The Library Information Literacy Skills for PSM students was held at 3 p.m. on April 9, 2021. This session had a total of 33 participants, which consisted of students and lecturers. This session began with an introduction to the library which covered the facilities and services available to students and lecturers. Following that, a briefing on 5 searching platforms eFind, EzProxy, UMP-IR, eColLIB, and eLIB, that can be utilized to obtain reference and research resources. Mrs Affida demonstrated on the searching techniques by using the search terms and Boolean Operators

In addition to using the search platform provided by the library, participants were also shown how to search for materials using the Open Access platform. This is to broaden the range of searching tools available to participants. In addition, participants were exposed to basic citing, referencing and plagiarism tools available in the library, namely Turnitin. Participants can also use the Inter Library Loan service to get materials that are not available in the library's collection. All descriptions of library facilities and services are shown live through the library portal in the hope that all participants can refer to all the latest information about the library on the library portal. The session ended with questions and answers from students and lecturers. The library is very honoured for being invited by the Center for Mathematical Sciences and to be a part of the colloquium.
